James Koopman Obituary

 

James “Jim” Allen Koopman, age 81, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at his home in Kingston, Wisconsin.  Jim was a former resident of Chanhassen, Minnesota.  He was born on January 1, 1937, in Sheffield, Iowa, to Gerhardt and Ellen (Krambeer) Koopman.  Jim grew up on a farm near Postville, Iowa, where he graduated from Postville High School in 1955.  He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955-1959.  He was an Air Traffic Controller for over 20 years working in Chicago, Illinois, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Anchorage, Alaska and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jim retired from Toro Manufacturing in Shakopee, Minnesota, in 2007 and relocated to Kingston, Wisconsin. 

 He is survived by his children, Tim (Nancy) Koopman of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Todd (Jeffrey) Koopman of Beaverton, Oregon, Tina (Alan) Lee of Chanhassen, Minnesota; grandchildren, Tyler, Mitchell and Tessa Lee of Chanhassen, Minnesota.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhardt and Ellen Koopman; two brothers, Louis “Bud” Koopman, Dean Koopman;  two sisters, Lois Wahls and Geraldine Koch.

A Celebration of Life for James "Jim" Allen Koopman, will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018,  from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at the American Legion 395 George Thompson Post, Main St. and Hwy B, in Kingston, Wisconsin.  A memorial has been established to the Kingston Mill Pond Library, P.O. Box 98, Kingston, WI., 53939-0098.  

A second Celebration of Life for Jim Koopman,  will be held on Sunday, March 11, from 3:00-5:00 p.m., at the American Legion, 290 Lake Dr. E, in Chanhassen, MN, 55317.  Internment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN, on Monday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m.  Please visit our website www.wachholzandsons.com to send a condolence or to share a story or memory of Jim with his family.
