John Schmidt Obituary

John P. "Jack" Schmidt, age 75, of Green Lake, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at ThedaCare Medical Center in Berlin, WI.  Jack was born on August 16, 1942, in Aurora, IL, a son of Arthur Henry and Frances Hunter (Nelson) Schmidt.  He attended Batavia High School in Illinois, graduating in 1960.  Jack married his high school sweetheart, Diane Lorraine Reimer, on October 21, 1961, in Mooseheart, IL.  They met when they were 16 and were married at 19.  Jack had retired after many years in management at Barber Greene/Caterpillar in Aurora, IL. 

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran and Faith Lutheran churches in Batavia and Geneva, IL.  He was also a very active member and a leader of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 12 in Batavia, achieving the Order of the Arrow, which he was very proud of.   Jack was also a Champion Eagle Dancer.  He was a constant presence at all of his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. 

Jack officially retired 8 years ago to Green Lake WI, where he had spent all of his vacation time since he was 17 years old.  He was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading, smoking cigars, a Friday night fish fry with a brandy old fashion with an olive, cooking and baking.  He enjoyed starting each morning with the Oakwood Beach Road coffee crew.  Jack also enjoyed grocery shopping.  He loved spending time in and on the water with his family and friends.

Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diane Schmidt of Green Lake; 2 daughters, Jill (Tim) Mair of Batavia, IL, Jenny (Krist) Enstrom of North Aurora, IL; 5 grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel, Wyatt Enstrom; Hailey, Hunter Schmidt; 2 step grandchildren, Jodi Mair, Tyler Mair of Batavia, IL; brother, Jay (Gina) Schmidt of Hudson, FL; brother-in-law, Dale Osland of Dixon, IL; many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Frances Schmidt; son, John Schmidt; sister, Judy Osland, brother, Jeff Schmidt; father and mother-in-law, Clare and Lorraine Reimer.

A celebration of life for John P. "Jack" Schmidt will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with the memorial service beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave, in Batavia, IL.  A memorial has been established to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 12, C/O Immanuel Lutheran Church, 950 Hart Road, Batavia, IL 60510.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Wachholz and Sons Funeral Home in Princeton, WI and the Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave, in Batavia IL.  Please visit our website www.wachholzandsons.com to send a condolence or to share a memory of Jack with his family.
