Alice Marguerite (nee Keyes) Seelow, age 86, of Montello, WI, formerly of Madison, WI, passed away on a sunny Palm Sunday morning, on March 29, 2026, at the Whispering Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ripon, WI. Alice was born on February 26, 1940, in Madison, to Leonard and Helen (nee Rock) Keyes. She was one of eight siblings in a large, close-knit Catholic family residing on Center Avenue on the east side of Madison. She attended St. Bernard's grade school and then graduated from Edgewood High School in 1958. She initially wanted to be a nun.
Alice married William (Bill) Seelow in 1960, starting their life together on Madison’s east side. In 1966, they moved to their first home on Northland Drive, where they raised three children. Alice was dedicated to her family and church. She was a member of St. Bernard and St. Peter Catholic churches. She often hosted holidays, filling her home with her brothers and sisters, and their families.
In her younger years, Sundays were devoted to family and after mass, she always cooked a nice dinner. As her children grew up, Sundays evolved into country drives and dining out with her cherished sister Shelley, her husband Dave, and occasionally other siblings. She upheld this tradition for more than 40 years. She is probably already driving her brother John around up in heaven, both singing their favorite Irish songs. She was an accomplished sketch and oil artist. Many of her works adorn the walls of family, friends, and places of worship.
Helping others was Alice’s true calling. She joined the St. Vincent De Paul Society, Madison, in 1983, continuing her brother John Keyes’s legacy of humble service to the needy. She took on the role of director at the St. Vincent De Paul Service Center in 1990. Known as ‘Miss Alice,’ she helped people secure food, medication, and housing until she retired in 2010 at the age of 70. Alice was recognized several times by the Catholic Women’s Club and St. Vincent De Paul for her relentless efforts to better the lives of all of God’s children. She befriended many along the way, including several Vietnam veterans that she drove to medical appointments.
Alice is survived by her three children: Cathy LaReau, Mark (Maggie) Seelow, Matthew (Rhonda) Seelow; seven grandchildren, Sarah LaReau, Anthony LaReau, Raoul LaReau, Jodell (Beth) LaReau, Casey (Taylor) Seelow, Anna Seelow, Michael Seelow; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen (Norm) Yerke, Michelle (David) Christenson, Patricia (Richard) Knudtson, Elizabeth Keyes; sister-in-law, Karen Keyes; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Seelow; parents, Leonard D. and Helen L. Keyes; sister, Carol Keyes; brothers, John Keyes and Thomas Keyes.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to her family at Residence on Forest Lane in Montello, WI as well as the Moments hospice team.
