Barbara Smith, age 83, of Germania, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at ThedaCare Medical Center in Berlin. She was born on October 15, 1939, in Berlin, WI, a daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kurek) Formiller.
After graduating from Wautoma High School, Barb attended Oshkosh Normal School to become a teacher. She taught elementary students in Mt. Morris at Mountain View School and had also been a kindergarten teacher in Princeton. On August 17, 1968, she married Glen Smith at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Berlin. Barb continued teaching until 1972, the year she began to start her family. Barb also worked at Brakebush for 18 years, retiring in 2007.
Barbara was a life long member of St. James Catholic Church in Neshkoro. She enjoyed volunteering at the church, helping with funeral meals and being the ticket seller for the annual church picnic every summer. She loved gardening, canning, planting flowers, cooking, baking wedding cakes and birthday cakes, and loving her grandkids and family with her big kind heart. Making Sunday meals every week was a must. She also enjoyed reading and singing to her grandgirls as they sat on her lap.
Those Barb leaves behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, Glen Smith of Germania; 2 sons, Joseph Smith of Germania, Brad (Jill) Smith of Randolph; 3 granddaughters, Ava, Stella and Rubee Smith; 2 sisters-in-law, Carlene (Mike) Thrall, Melody (Denis) Pulvermacher; brother-in-law, Gordon (Cheri) Smith; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends and neighbors that have helped Barb and Glen over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Formiller; 2 sisters, Joyce Rodensal and Delores Walejko; brother, Gilbert “Delbert” Formiller.
A funeral service for Barbara Smith will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m., at the Wachholz and Sons Funeral Home, 303 Harvard St, in Princeton. Father Dale Grubba will officiate. Barbara will be laid to rest following the service in the Germania Cemetery in Germania.
