Carol Ann Witzigmann, age 87, of Princeton, was called home to heaven on October 24th, 2022, with her family by her side. Carol was born on September 10th, 1935, in Milwaukee, WI to the late Alvin and Erna Ramien. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack, whom she missed dearly. She would be the first to tell you that when she first met Jack, she wasn’t so sure about this farm boy with muddy shoes. However, he was persistent and eventually won her heart. They were married on April 19th, 1958, and had been separated in death by almost 9 years. In her final days, Carol told us that Jack came to her and said, “It’s not your time yet, I’m building you something and it’s almost ready.” They are now enjoying their time together in heaven, and we wish we knew what he was building! While Jack was ever the perfectionist, Carol was the taskmaster. It wouldn’t surprise us if some last-minute tweaks were necessary, but with Carol at his side once again we’re sure it’s complete, and “awesome,” one of Carol’s favorite words.
Carol worked for Northwestern Mutual for several years in her early marriage to Jack, even bragging that at one point she was making more than he was per hour. While she left that job to raise her children, she would often tell us that if she stayed she would have been running the place, and we believe her! She was a meticulous note-taker and ran a tight ship. If someone gave her a new phone number, it was in her phone book within minutes. If you forgot the date of someone’s birthday, you could find it on her calendar. And if you owed her a dollar for losing a game of cards to her… she wouldn’t forget it, but she’d probably play you again double or nothing! She also loved going to many of the different casinos around Wisconsin. You could always find her at her favorite game, “Double Diamonds.” If you drove her there, you would know that “just 20 more minutes” meant she was going to play at least 2 more hours, so get comfortable!
If you knew Carol, you knew that family meant everything to her. When Carol and Jack would go “Up North” for summer, that always involved bringing her many grandsons with as well. All of her 8 grandsons were able to spend time up there, many times all summer long. And you knew every morning there would be 2 fried eggs and a piece of toast waiting for you for breakfast, with homemade jelly of course! We will all cherish the memories made up there.
Carol is survived by her children, Robert (Lori), Cynthia, and Linda; loving grandmother to Adam (Erin), Christopher (Laura), Dustin (Stephanie), Ryan (Tess), Benjamin (Brittany), Matthew (Hannah), Jonathan (Anna), and Anthony; proud great grandmother of Alaina, Aiden, Connor, Cadence, Carly, Hannah, Madeline, Kennedy, Kasey, Cailyn, Aubree, Addelyn, Victoria, Callie, Jacob, Kiersten, Carter, and Amari; proud aunt to Kim and Roxanne; godmother to Kathy; special aunt to Sharlene; also survived by many other relatives and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her brother, Alan; her “special sisters,” Geraldine “Jerry” Schenker and June Coerper.
She often talked on the phone with her best friend, Irene Polly and enjoyed spending time with her “bonus daughters,” Patty Menzl and Crystal Blagrave. She also had a soft-spot for her friend, Daniel Unger. Carol leaves a long list of friends and loved-ones, she will be dearly missed. Carol loved having her friends and family together, and especially well-fed.
Instead of a traditional funeral she would like to have a summer barbecue, details to come in the future. A memorial has been established to Calvary Lutheran Church, 202 S. Farmer St., Princeton, Wisconsin.
