Gail Poppino VanMeter, age 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Lake Puckaway, WI. She was born on January 9, 1951 in Elgin, IL, the daughter of Ervin and Margaret (Ahrens) Vierig.
Gail retired from Suburban Plastics in Elgin, IL, where she worked for over 20 years. She enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling, motorcycle rides, her cats, and spending time with family and friends. She treasured having lunch along the Florida coast.
Gail is survived by her husband, Jim VanMeter of Lake Placid, FL; brother, Paul Vierig of Winter, WI; her kids, Chad (Colleen) Thiele of Elgin, IL, Amber (Thomas) Vargas of South Elgin, IL; 2 grandchildren, Jackson McKibben, Ashlynn Thiele; 3 nephews, Thomas Vierig, James (Cristina) Vierig, Dale (Jean) Vierig; 4 nieces, Kindra Vierig, Yvonne (Mike) Sipes, Annie (Patrick) Mallon, Vickie (Jake) Merrill; great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Margaret Vierig; previous spouse, Dennis Thiele; twin brother, Glen Vierig; daughter, Shannon Gospodarek.
A Celebration of Life for Gail Poppino VanMeter will be held on Friday, July 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Mike & Cathy’s Good Old Days Resort, W995 North Shore Drive, Montello. A time of reflection will begin at 11:00 a.m. Gail will be buried at a later date in the Burlington Union Cemetery in Burlington, IL.
