Gary Makurat Obituary

Gary Makurat, age 61, of Berlin, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. He was born on March 7, 1959, in Ripon, a son of Frank and Esther (Disterhaft) Makurat Jr.

Gary lived at Evergreen Pines assisted living in Berlin. Going on outings with the group at Evergreen Pines was something Gary always looked forward to. He worked for Fox River Industries where he enjoyed doing packaging for Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon. Gary relished being with his family. He loved looking at family pictures and being the “beer boy” at family gatherings where he would make sure everyone had a beer. He may have delivered the beer but his favorite drink was Diet Pepsi. Gary was obsessed with deer hunting. He enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics and bowling was one of his favorite events.

Those Gary leaves behind to cherish his memory included his siblings, Donnie (Kathy) Makurat of Neshkoro, Kathy (Dusty) Kwakkel of Fond du Lac, Mike (special friend, Gail) Makurat of Princeton, Lori (Randy) Lusty of Belgium, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Esther Makurat, Jr.

A visitation for Gary Makurat will be held on Saturday, November 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 226 South Clinton St., in Princeton. Pastor John Stelter will deliver a Pastor’s Message at 11:00 a.m. following the visitation. Burial, along with a committal service officiated by Pastor Aaron Demaster will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Ripon. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Gary would be appreciated to the Special Olympics.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Evergreen Pines Assisted Living, Fox River Industries and the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare Medical Center in Berlin and Neenah.
