Harold Stelter Obituary

Harold "CornCob" R. Stelter, 82, of Princeton, passed away on April 26, 2026, at Juliette Manor in Berlin. Harold will be remembered for his kind heart and willing hand. He was married to the love of his life, Marion, for 49 years and was a beloved husband, father, and friend.

Born on February 14, 1944, in the town of Mecan, to Albert and Della (Bornick) Stelter, Harold was baptized and confirmed at Little Mecan Lutheran Church. He attended a one-room schoolhouse before graduating from Montello High School in 1962. He met Marion Hebbe dancing at the Berlin Eagles Club, and they were married on October 23, 1976, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Princeton, where he was a member.

Harold’s work ethic was unmatched, starting with driving a milk truck for Shields Creamery and later as a skilled mechanic at Fredrick Equipment, where he enjoyed fixing tractors and heavy machinery. He spent several years selling and digging graves, earning him the nickname “grave digger,” alongside helping with requests to locate ancestors from various cities. He also worked at Montello Products, Speed Queen, Rockwell International, and Arvin Meritor, from which he retired in 2002. After retirement he enjoyed attending the monthly retiree union meetings of the Local 291.

A true outdoorsman, Harold was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper who found great joy in the Wisconsin woods and waters. He also loved trap shooting and playing baseball for the Puckaway Pirates. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling in several leagues.

He is survived by his wife, Marion; children, Nicole and Eric; one brother; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Alvin and Lillian Hebbe; sister-in-law, Ruth Hebbe; his parents; a brother; and a sister.
