Harold (Harry) Gassen, age 81, of Redgranite, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 1, 2024, at his home. He was born on October 8, 1943, in Madison, WI, a son of Harold and Geraldine (Cullen) Gassen.
Harold graduated from Madison East High School. He worked as a drywaller until he was drafted into the United States Army. Harold served his country with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam.
After returning home from Vietnam, Harold went back to work as a drywaller and met Sandy Teske. They were married on November 7, 1970, in Princeton. In 1973, they moved to Berlin and Harold worked for Oshkosh Truck for 27 years before retiring. He moved his family to Redgranite in 1982 and lived there for 42 years.
Harold loved playing and watching sports. He enjoyed hunting fox, pheasant, deer and elk. He also enjoyed watching Gunsmoke. After retiring, he enjoyed going to auctions, watching his grandson play baseball, and spending time with his granddaughter.
Those Harold leaves behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Sandy Gassen of Redgranite; son, Josh (Valerie) Gassen of Oshkosh; daughter, Jenny (Joe) Dudek of Green Bay; 2 grandchildren, Kolton and Shelby; 2 brothers, David and Ronald Gassen; brother-in-law, Bob Tews; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, father-in-law; 2 sisters, Diane and Sandy; 3 brothers, Jeff, Dennis and Donald.
In honoring Harold’s wishes there will be no service. The family will have burial at a later date.
Harold’s family wishes to thank the VA Clinic of Appleton and the Appleton Heart and Vascular Institute of Wisconsin for treating Harold’s heart disease that he battled for over 30 years. They would also like to thank the Redgranite Rescue and Wautoma Ambulance Service for their help and support and the Wachholz and Sons Funeral Home for assisting with arrangements.
