Hunter D. Kuenzi

Hunter D. Kuenzi, age 28, of Waukesha, WI, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2026. He was born on January 8, 1998, in Beaver Dam, WI, to Kevin Kuenzi and Heather (Christensen) Prachel.

Hunter in every way is a beautiful soul and to know Hunter was to love him. He was a natural peace maker and a fierce protector with what one would describe as a lion’s heart, loyal to his very core. Kind to the very depths of his being, Hunter had a way of making others feel welcomed, loved and most importantly, seen. He took great pride in doing the right thing, using his moral compass as his trusted guide. When Hunter chose to do something or anything, he did it with his whole heart, jumping in with both feet, even if he didn’t know what he was doing, he figured he would figure it out when he got there. Hunter lived his life with the ultimate goal of making this world a better place. By becoming a police officer for the West Allis Police Department, a position he took great pride in, he happily dedicated most of his time ensuring the communities safety. Even off-duty, even if you were a stranger, Hunter would have your back, feeling honored to protect and serve all people.

Hunter loved all outdoor activities including hiking the Washington Mountains, bow hunting and fishing. He was the happiest however, at the highest point of a mountain top. Hunter loved his family, always being a devoted dad, son, brother, and uncle. Hunter married Carson Jonas on August 8, 2024, and welcomed daughter, Ella Mae Kuenzi on August 26, 2025, with her arrival being the happiest and proudest moment of his life.

If you had the chance to know Hunter, we hope you will remember his infectious laugh, his beautiful smile, and his big beautiful heart. We ask all of you reading this to help his family honor him by choosing to do in your heart what you feel is right. Treat all people with the kindness every person deserves, take time to make a fellow human being feel seen and understood, use compassion every chance you have, and of course, find a passion that brings joy and jumping in with both feet.

Those Hunter leaves behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Carson Kuenzi; daughter, Ella Mae Kuenzi; mother and stepfather, Heather (Cory) Prachel; his father, Kevin Kuenzi; sister, Gabriella (Taven) Sandstrom; nephews, Stellan and Curren Sandstrom; grandmother, Barb Christensen; grandfather, Gordon Kuenzi; step-grandparents, Duane (Judy) Prachel; great-grandmother, Dorothy Cole; step-great-grandmother, Geraldine Prachel; his beloved dog and best friend, Ziggy Zoom; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Naomi Kuenzi; grandfather, Ronn Christensen. 

A Celebration of Life for Hunter D. Kuenzi will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 226 S.
