James N. Disterhaft, age 82, of Neshkoro, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at ThedaCare Medical Center in Neenah. He was born on August 14, 1935, in Neshkoro, WI, a son of Norbert and Frances (Marshall) Disterhaft. James proudly served his country as a US Marine during the Korean War. On October 15, 1966, he married Eileen Gaylord in Berlin, WI. James worked as an assembler at Speed Queen in Ripon for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved to travel. James especially enjoyed the trip he and Eileen took to Alaska as well as the bus tour to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. He also like playing cards, sheepshead and solitaire. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Neshkoro and a member of the Princeton American Legion Post 366 and Princeton VFW Post 10452.
James is survived by his wife, Eileen Disterhaft of Neshkoro; his children, Lisa Disterhaft of Princeton, Tom Disterhaft of Neshkoro; 2 grandchildren, Dylan Mentink and Jake Disterhaft; 4 sisters, Betty Werch of Ripon, Virginia (Robert) Hoffman of Neshkoro, Shirley (Clarence) Asleson of Ripon, Darlene Fromolz of Waupun; sister-in-law, Donna Nickolaisen of Berlin; brother-in-law, Frank Gaylord of Madison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Frances Disterhaft; 2 brothers, Daniel and Tom; 2 sisters, Esther Carnako and Beverly Hopp; other family members and friends.
A visitation for James N. Disterhaft will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Wachholz and Sons Funeral Home, 303 Harvard St., in Princeton. A Memorial Service for James will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., with a one hour visitation prior to the service at St. James Catholic Church , 315 N. Main St., in Neshkoro. Father William Whalen will officiate. Burial will follow the service, with full military honors, at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Neshkoro.
