Jean Constance Murphy, age 86, of Green Lake, WI, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at SSM Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac, WI. She was born on May 4, 1939, the daughter of Reinhold and Viola (Becker) Hallmann in the township of Newton in Marquette County, WI, where she was also baptized.
Jean grew up in the home of the Welnitz brothers, where her mother worked as a housekeeper. She was confirmed in 1953, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Markesan. After graduating from Markesan High School in 1957, Jean worked in various office positions as a transcriptionist and secretary. Later she helped others as a caregiver and housekeeper.
On November 28, 1959, Jean married John Murphy of Kingston at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Markesan. They were blessed with 4 children. Jean was then a stay-at-home mom and worked with her husband in their years of farming. Family was always a priority to her.
Jean was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Green Lake where she had been a member of the church choir and the Fellowship League. Her many hobbies included baking, playing games and cards with family, reading, and puzzles. Jean and John enjoyed taking road trips, attending many dances and music related events.
Those Jean leaves behind to cherish her memory include her husband of 66 years, John Murphy; 3 children, Denise (Scott) Schoeneck of Rhinelander, Vicki (Marty) Wolf of Cedarburg, Mark (Jessica) Murphy of Hartford; 12 grandchildren, Janna, Luke, Daniel, Nicole, Kara, Aaron, Andrew, Danielle, Amy, Zachary, Noelle, Samuel; 5 great grandchildren, Easton, Kaitlynn, Amelia, Nate, Glenn; brother-in-law, Gerald (Patricia) Murphy; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Charles Murphy in 1983; other family members and friends.
A memorial service for Jean Murphy will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 3:30 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m., at Peace Lutheran Church, 440 Lake St., in Green Lake. Pastor Nick Haasch will officiate. Jean will be laid to rest in the Kingston Cemetery at a later date.
