Obituary

Joe Schmit, age 64, of Green Lake, WI, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, March 14, 2022. He was born on August 16, 1957, in Port Washington, WI, a son of Emmons and Florence (Schwenner) Schmit.

 

On January 16, 1988, Joe married Catherine Bednarek. Over the years, Joe had worked for Del Monte Foods in Markesan, Cardinal Glass in Portage and the School District of Black River Falls as a Building and Grounds Director.

 

Joe loved spending time with his grandkids, family and friends. He had a love of sports, enjoying softball, basketball, football and bowling. He also enjoyed woodworking, 4 wheeling, and detailing cars. He was the best handyman and could fix just about anything. Joe was everyone’s favorite uncle.

 

Those Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 34 years, Catherine Schmit of Green Lake; 4 children, Joshua Sondalle (Kay Engelbrecht) of Ripon, WI, Erin (Joshua) Ballard of Waunakee, WI, Cameron (Sade) Schmit of Green Lake, Megan Harper of Westminster, CO; 4 grandchildren, Alia Sondalle, Mason Ballard, Keagan Ballard, Isabel Ballard; 6 siblings, Jeanne (David) Bichler, Joyce (Dennis) Damerow, Joanne Laper, John (Patti) Schmit, Jackie (Jeff) Lucas, Jeffrey (Carie) Schmit; sister-in-law, Diane Schmit; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmons and Florence Schmit; brother, Gerald Schmit; sister-in-law, Ellen Bednarek.

 

A Memorial Mass for Joe Schmit will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 1:30 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1211 W.
