Merna A. Swanke

Merna A. Swanke, age 98, of Montello, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Beaver Dam, WI. She was born on October 13, 1925, in Markesan, a daughter of Walter and Leona Ann (Steinkraus) Hein.

Merna married Victor Swanke on June 17, 1945, in Manchester and together they worked their family farm and raised 12 children. She had a love for farm animals. Merna enjoyed sewing patch quilts and making blankets. She loved to cook and was an excellent baker.

Those Merna leaves behind to cherish her memory are her 9 children, Patti (Robert) Wedde, Bonnie Wedde, Daniel (Betty) Swanke, Gene (Tina) Swanke, Robert Swanke, Chuck Swanke, Linda (George) Wiersma, Richard (Linda) Swanke, Michael (Sarah) Swanke; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Swanke; 3 children, Victor Jr., Jenny, Darwin; numerous brothers and sisters.

A funeral service for Merna A. Swanke will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 226 S. Clinton St., in Princeton. Pastor John Stelter will officiate. Merna will be laid to rest following the service in the Black Creek Cemetery of Neshkoro.
