Sylvia Hartwig

Sylvia Hartwig, age 91, of Markesan, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Markesan Resident Home, where she resided for the past 7 years. She was born on November 2, 1933, in the township of Rubicon, WI, a daughter of Edmund and Erna (Wittnebel) Horst.

Sylvia married Arlon “Amos” Hartwig on May 2, 1953, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford, WI. While living in Hartford, she worked various jobs. In 1975, Sylvia and Arlon moved to the Wautoma area and together started their own business, A. Hartwig & Sons Excavating in Neshkoro. Sylvia was the secretary for the business. She enjoyed walking, dancing, puzzles, reading, bingo, card and dice games. While living at the resident home, she enjoyed the activities and outings and especially doing puzzles with her dear friend, Cirena.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her 3 sons, Ross (Lori) Hartwig of Markesan, Greg (Debbie) Hartwig of Neshkoro, Mark Hartwig of Wautoma; 4 grandchildren, Zakery (special friend, Talina) Hartwig, Lucas Hartwig, Jacob (Alicia) Hartwig, Brady (Rachel) Hartwig; 3 great grandchildren, Hadley Lynne Hartwig, Hazel Grace Hartwig, Ellis Rose Hartwig; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Erna Horst; husband, Arlon “Amos” Hartwig; 2 grandchildren, Rachel and Bradley Hartwig; brother, Alvin (Florence) Horst; sister, Arline (Melvin) Voigt; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A funeral service for Sylvia Hartwig will take place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 226 South Clinton St., in Princeton. Pastor John Stelter will officiate the service. Sylvia will be laid to rest following the service in the Memory Hill Cemetery in Princeton.
